About our foundation

We Are In A Mission To Help Helpless

Our Foundation

Since 2014, Action for Women Foundation (AWF) has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights, dignity, and empowerment of vulnerable women and girls across Rwanda. Our organization is committed to fostering an environment where every woman and girl can realize her full potential, access equal opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to her community.

Our Vision

A peaceful society where social justice prevails, gender equality is the norm, and women and girls are empowered to lead, innovate, and inspire change. We envision a society where women are free from violence, discrimination, and economic marginalization—creating a ripple effect of positive transformation across generations.

Our Mission

To empower women and girls through advocacy, education, and support, enabling them to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

Core Focus Areas

Social Justice & Rights Advocacy

We strive to influence policies and challenge societal norms that hinder gender equality. Through awareness campaigns, policy dialogue, and advocacy initiatives, we aim to amplify marginalized voices and promote a culture of respect and justice.

Economic Empowerment

Our programs are designed to enhance women’s economic participation by providing vocational skills, entrepreneurial training, and access to financial services. We believe economic independence is a cornerstone for social empowerment and community development.

Gender Equality & Inclusion

AWF works tirelessly to normalize gender equality across all sectors. We promote inclusive practices that ensure women’s representation in leadership, decision-making, and community development.

Our Journey and Impact

Founded in Kigali by a committed group of social advocates, AWF was established to address urgent needs of vulnerable women and girls facing gender-based violence, economic hardship, and social exclusion. Our focus has been on creating sustainable, community-led solutions.

Over the years, our network has expanded to include thousands of women and girls, along with partners, government agencies, and civil society organizations. Our community-centric approach emphasizes trust, participation, and collective action.

  • Training over 5,000 women in various trades.
  • Influencing policies on gender-based violence and women's rights.
  • Establishing health and wellness centers for reproductive and mental health.
  • Facilitating microfinance and savings groups empowering women economically.

Our Values

  • Empowerment: We believe every woman has the right to control her future. Our programs foster confidence, independence, and leadership.
  • Justice & Equality: We advocate for fairness, non-discrimination, and equal opportunities for all women and girls.
  • Community & Partnership: Sustainable change is rooted in strong community engagement and collaborations.
  • Integrity & Transparency: We operate with honesty, accountability, and respect for those we serve.
